Why Choose Us
Backflow Is All We Do
FlowGuard focuses on one trade: testing, certification, repair, and installation of backflow preventers. Every visit follows the same documented procedure — identify the assembly, test each check valve with a calibrated gauge, and file the report with Snohomish County PUD. No side trades, no upsells, just the device and the paperwork.
Local to Lake Stevens
We work across Lake Stevens and the surrounding Snohomish County area — Cavalero Hill, Frontier Heights, North Lake Stevens, Soper Hill, and South Lake Stevens. We know the PUD's cross-connection program, which assemblies are common on local irrigation systems, and how freeze damage shows up here in spring.
Straightforward Reports
After every test you get a plain-English explanation of what passed, what didn't, and what comes next — plus the formal test report filed with your water purveyor. If your assembly fails, you'll know whether it needs a repair or a replacement, and why.
Repairs Done Right
When a repair is the answer, we rebuild with original-manufacturer parts and retest the assembly afterward — because a repair only counts once the retest passes and the report is on file. If a device can't be repaired with factory parts, we'll tell you it's time for a replacement.
One Call Covers It
Testing, certification paperwork, repairs, new installs, irrigation systems, and help after a failed test — one number reaches all of it: (425) 548-1928. Tell us what's going on and we'll point you to the right next step.
FlowGuard — Our Process
How It Works
- Tell us what you need
Call (425) 548-1928 and describe your situation — an annual test coming due, a letter from the PUD, a leaking device, a new irrigation system. We'll confirm which service fits and what to have ready, starting with clear access to the assembly.
- We test the assembly
The tester identifies your assembly type, notes the line pressure, briefly shuts the water at the assembly's own valves, and runs the field test with a calibrated differential-pressure gauge — checking each check valve and, on reduced-pressure assemblies, the relief valve.
- You get the results
Pass or fail, you hear it on the spot in plain language. The test report is completed and filed with Snohomish County PUD. If the assembly failed, we'll walk through the repair or replacement options before we leave.
- You're covered for the year
With a passing report on file with the PUD, your annual obligation is handled until the next cycle. We'll note anything worth watching — an aging assembly, freeze exposure — so next year's visit holds no surprises.
FlowGuard
Backflow Testing by the Numbers
Water service connections on the PUD's Lake Stevens system. Every connection with a cross-connection hazard needs annual testing at the owner's expense.
The minimum differential each check valve in a double-check assembly must hold to pass its field test.
The minimum height for a pressure vacuum breaker above the highest point of irrigation piping.
Acres of Lake Stevens — the largest natural lake in Snohomish County, and the reason so many local homes run irrigation.

Local Backflow Service
Lake Stevens runs on a single water system — Snohomish County PUD's Lake Stevens Integrated Water System — and the PUD requires annual backflow testing at the owner's expense wherever a cross-connection hazard exists: irrigation systems, pools, boilers, fire sprinklers, booster pumps, and more. With steady new construction from South Lake Stevens to Cavalero Hill, new assemblies go in every month.

Do I really have to test my backflow preventer every year?
Yes — if your property has an assembly protecting the public water system. Snohomish County PUD requires annual testing at the owner's expense under its cross-connection control program, which follows state rule WAC 246-290-490. Testing is also required any time an assembly is installed, repaired, reinstalled, or relocated, and after a backflow incident.
The one common exception is the atmospheric vacuum breaker (AVB): the state rule requires it to be inspected at installation, after repairs, and after an incident — but not field-tested every year.
What happens if I skip the annual test?
The PUD can escalate from notices to disconnecting your domestic water service until the hazard is controlled. Washington's rule authorizes shutoff for noncompliance — not fines. Keeping the annual test done and the report filed is what keeps your water on without interruption.
How long does a backflow test visit take?
A standard residential test usually takes well under an hour. Your water is off only briefly — at the assembly's own shutoff valves — while the tester flushes the test cocks, attaches the gauge, and works through each check valve. Then the water goes back on and you get the results on the spot.
